A Farm With a Wider Purpose
Growing Food. Growing Knowledge. Growing Community.
Rooted here…
Long before Heritage had a name, it took root around the kitchen table, a place where recipes were taught by feel and stories were repeated until they became legend.
Heritage grew from our family history; from people who made something meaningful from what they had, and from recipes, resourcefulness, and ways of caring for one another carried through generations.
Now, we are honored to carry these stories forward and share them with you.
Heritage is being built as a working farm, a living archive, and a place to learn, gather, and grow. We are creating a farm where families, students, veterans, gardeners, community organizations, and curious visitors can reconnect with land, food, and one another through planned visits, field experiences, workshops, seasonal gatherings, and cultural programming.
At the heart of this work is the keeping of knowledge. We grow heirloom and culturally significant crops, save seed, and document the relationships among soil, food, memory, and migration. Our approach draws from ancestral, time-tested, and place-based practices shaped by African, Indigenous, Caribbean, Southern, and other foodways. These traditions inform how we care for soil, conserve water, preserve food, protect biodiversity, and work with the seasons.
As Heritage takes root, we are building toward youth growing projects, school field experiences, internships, mentorship, seed-saving education, storytelling, foodways demonstrations, and agricultural learning for veterans and emerging growers. Our goal is for a meaningful portion of this public programming to be offered free or at low cost through thoughtful partnerships, sponsorships, and the continued growth of the farm.
We hope to work alongside growers, elders, scholars, cultural knowledge keepers, and community organizations to strengthen local food and creative economies, preserve living traditions, and create pathways for future growers.
The farm’s produce, goods, and experiences help sustain this work; the work ensures that what is grown here can nourish more than a season. It can nourish knowledge, opportunity, and belonging.
Heritage is also shaped by what traveled, seeds, techniques, flavors, ideas, and ways of working the land carried from one place to another. Through migration, movement, and exchange, those traditions changed, adapted, and took root in new soil. We study those connections not only in what we grow, but in how we grow it, bringing old knowledge into conversation with the land we tend today.
Heritage Farm & Co. is a sustainable, purpose-led farm committed to regenerative, organic-aligned growing practices, heirloom and culturally significant varieties, and thoughtful land stewardship. We grow flavorful seasonal produce, create handcrafted farm goods, and share practical knowledge through demonstrations, workshops, and hands-on experiences that help people better understand food, farming, and the land that sustains us.
